This module introduces students to a number of examples of innovative contemporary theatre directors and practitioners in the UK and abroad. It will introduce a wide range of practices for working with actors and performers, offering theoretical and practical classes to inform the understanding of key directorial concepts.   

Students will be expected to pitch their own ideas for a possible theatre production at the close of the module; communicating creative ideas, justifying a critical context for the work and visually illustrating the potential aesthetic possibilities for the work. The pitch will last 8-10 minutes.    

The pitch will be informed by research into existing performance precedents. A directorial style will be clearly understood and communicated.

Theatre (Performance and Production) Students will undertake an extended placement (40-80hrs) inside the workplace of a Leading Industry Partner, they will build on – in consultation with supervisor from their partner organisation – their technical interests and specialisms. Beyond a simple Work Placement, the Production Internship allows students not only hands-on learning, but the opportunity to develop their own personal technical and management specialisms.

Introduction

This module examines the application of theatrical performance within non-traditional settings. The module explores workshop design and the dramaturgical demands of Applied Performance texts. The module integrates this understanding as a means of writing, developing and performing a performance for young people.
