Associated Studios London
Module Code: ASL701
Academic year: 23
Semester: AY
Occurrence: ASL
Level: L7
Location: ASL

Term 1 of this module is designed as a personal investigation into the craft and artistry of Acting. It will seek to enhance both knowledge of Acting Technique and ability to apply it in various professional performative contexts. Students will explore craft through engagement with a breadth of various methodological practices currently used in the Performing Arts Industry.

Term 2 allows the actor to develop their application of theory and technique in a suitable professional context. Working with a Director, students will be cast and create a role with scene partners from a seminal work (full play, cut version or abridged scenes at Director’s discretion). Students will draw from the experiences and knowledge learned from the ‘Acting - Technique’ module as well as the supplementary classes and workshops encountered this semester. This module will encourage the use of learned tools to make appropriate artistic decisions, based on textual analysis and research of the wider contexts, themes and society of the play.

Verbal Feedback will be given at the end of Term 1 to give you suggested areas of development.

Assessments:
Performance: Students will take part in a publicly* performed play.  Students will be cast appropriately by the Module Leaders and Directors of each play. Rehearsals will run throughout the whole of Term 2. Students will perform their play with appropriate costuming and props as agreed by the Director and Principal. Casting choices for the play are at the discretion of the Associated Studios staff.

Written: Students will submit a written journal of their experiences through the entire acting module (Terms 1 and 2). This journal will contain details of students reflective practice, details of discoveries made in classes, in depth analyses of methodologies and approaches of various practitioners, and any further research into the field of acting which the student has taken throughout their module. All written work should be properly sourced, cited and a full bibliography at the end of the work is required.

*plays might only be open to staff and students depending on space constraints

Students will receive written feedback on both assessments within 4 weeks of submission.
