This module allows students to build on their skills in the Musical Theatre disciplines of dance, acting and singing to create confident and technically adept performances.
DANCE Building on the second-year study of Ballet, Jazz and Tap, the student will investigate classical ballet performance and its important links to other dance styles. Students will be able to draw upon their musical experience to select music for appropriate routines – Waltz, Tango, Hornpipe etc., apply different varieties of music to jazz formats – Lyrical, Contemporary, Street etc, and develop their musical understanding within the Tap genre of how to create different beats and rhythms within phrases.
ACTING Students will further develop their approaches to acting with more advanced textual, physical and dramaturgical analysis. Through the study of two further practitioners the student will deepen their critical thinking. They will be required to prepare effectively and thoroughly and with greater specificity towards the written and practical assessments.
SINGING Designed to run alongside the Performance development 1 to 1 singing lessons, students will continue to study ensemble singing. Building on the study of more complex musical writing introduced at level 5, the student will explore advanced vocal harmony work and study a wider range of vocal styles. This will include Musical Theatre repertoire which draws on the genres of diverse and contrasting styles. Examples could be rap, choral/religious, opera/operetta and pop, to give the student the widest understanding of the requirements of an ensemble singer.
