Module Code: IOS5610_IOS5708
Academic year: 22
Semester: AY
Occurrence: A
Level: L5
Location: BO

This module will be delivered wholly outdoors as a Forest School, so you will experience the approach at your own level. You will also take part in a different Forest School as a joint leader. To enable you to share in leading, you will learn and use practical skills  expected of a Forest School Practitioner. While this module does not seek to replicate the content of a Level 3 Forest School Practitioner award, those completing the module will have the understanding (at Level 5) and the practical skills to lead a Forest School successfully. A Forest School is a journey of self-discovery and awareness in the outdoors in which participants are given the freedom to explore their surroundings, themselves and others through their curiosity and imagination. The approach is heralded by some as inspirational, but described by others as re-branding of old ideas giving questionable impact. This module explores principles that underpin the Forest School approach and reflects on evidence for its effectiveness. To enable you to engage fully in these reflections, you will learn and use practical skills expected of a Forest School Practitioner.
