This module enables students to reflect on their work placement experience through the delivery of workshops, tutorials and self-directed learning opportunities. The module focusses on drawing on reflective practice theory and subject literature in determining student’s knowledge and progress towards their self-directed learning objectives. It will also allow students through their reflections to formulate ideas of their professional strengths and weaknesses and potential career progression. As such the module will seek to encourage students to plan for the transition from university to work or other related goals. Students will be sign posted to student career services and academic advisors for complimentary support and guidance

The module aims to provide the student with a critical appreciation of the principles, theory and practice of health promotion in the UK. This will involve the application of the knowledge of sport, health and physical activity in the context of the wider social, cultural and environmental issues facing agents of health promotion.

This module provides a historical overview on the evolution of health promotion policies such as the Ottawa Charter, WHO (Health for all) and European Community (European Charter). It explores the concepts of health, illness and health promotion and the interaction of determinants and dimensions of health on Health Promotion. It examines and utilises the underlying behaviour change theories, models and philosophies related to health, physical activity and health promotion. Furthermore, it will appraise sociological critiques of health promotion and analyse cultural and social class-based issues.

Students will be cognisant with planning and evaluating a Health promotion campaign.
