This module aims to:

Provide a critically supportive environment for the development of high level skills in material practice

Establish a self-reflexive studio practice informed by research and the exploration of material processes and methods of production

Students write a studio proposal for the practical elements of the module.  The proposal is likely to be re-worked over the course of the module (300-400 words + bibliographic references as appropriate)

Students work on self-initiated projects, approved in discussion with a personal tutor

At the conclusion of the module work in progress is presented for assessment

Students produce a 1000 word Personal Statement showing a coherent awareness of relevant discourse, the individual context of material practice and an indication of potential contextual and practical developments in consequent modules

Seminar discussions outline the development of academic skills, preferred submission modes and reviews of sample Personal Statements, with reference to the University Study Skills resources and support systems;
